This is del los Santos' follow up to her debut novel "Love Walked In." It was a larger work, keeping the same protagonist and a few cast mates from the previous book, but introducing a couple more lovable characters, and characters that you grow to love.
When "Love Walked In" left off, Cornelia and her sister's soon-to-be ex husband decide that they really love each other after all, and decide to make a go of things. Where "Belong to Me" picks up is a few years down the road, the two are married and newly living in the suburbs.
It takes a bit longer to get involved in the story compared to her first novel, but half-way through, you know that something huge is coming... and I should have seen it coming, but I didn't and was completely shocked, amazed, astounded... it was great.
"Love Walked In" dealt with so many of the different types of love that can be in a person's life. This novel held true to those undercurrents, but felt more realistic. "Belong to Me" has a story-line that could happen to anyone. It's just a beautiful read.
