The Madonnas of Leningrad by Debra Dean

What a beautifully told story.  I love how the past is woven so carefully with the present storyline.  This story deals with a couple who have lived in the United States for most of their lives after living through the hell that was Western Russia from 1941-1946.  It's so much more than a 'war' story: it's about family and love and time and memories.  Loved it dearly - and hard to believe this was Debra Dean's first novel.  Outstanding.
