This is the second novel by Sarah Dunant that I've read, and I wasn't disappointed. When I picked this one up, I wasn't really sure what to expect. I had been let down by the last work of historical fiction that I had read (Philippa Gregory) and so I wasn't placing bets on this one either. But what a great story! This was a fantastic and unexpected read. Completely unpredictable storyline, and it was worth sticking to every page. I also love the round-a-bout way she brings in art history into this novel, as it was with the previous novel: "The Birth of Venus". I'm hoping that this is a trend, because I'm looking forward to the next Sarah Dunant!
