This weekend I took a course on pastel painting. I have done several pastel paintings before, and I really enjoy it, but I've never had formal training. The Pontiac School of the Arts managed to get Margaret Ferraro to teach this course, and she's an amazing instructor. I got so much out of this class.
One of our assignments was to copy a pastel painting. I rather ambitiously chose to do the Mother and Child painting by Mary Cassatt. I definitely bit off more than I could chew - it's still not finished, and I have it below. Its colours are muted because I have it covered with waxed paper for storing. I'm going to put it out on the easel and hopefully take a crack at finishing it.
