Artful Wednesday: Elizabeth Forbes

For this week's entry, I went looking through a list of Canadian artists and stopped at the first woman I saw: Elizabeth Forbes.  She was born in Ottawa, but most of her artistic career was in England.  I can really see, however, a Canadian look to her work.  The picture below of the schoolhouse in full session looks like a snap shot of any rural, Canadian schoolhouse from the 1800s.  Most of her painting subjects are children in their natural environment - which is still a new theme in the late 1800s when she was painting prolifically.
