This is another biography from the CBC Canada Reads 2012 list. I have read some Carol Shields before, but this is entirely different. It's her voice, not the voice of her characters. I thought she was trying to write too quickly. There could have been so many things she could have gone into more detail about in this very short account of Jane Austen's life. I suppose it was hard for Shields to stay away from her own personal view on Austen's works - I would have that issue as well - but it would have been nice to have more perspective on a largely unknown authoress.
