This year, like every other year, we went out as a family for brunch, had an afternoon of buzzing around the house getting things set outside and tidied up, and finished it off with a great family dinner. Interestingly enough, this ritual is something we do almost every Sunday. Does our family need a special day to make Mom feel more special than other days? Probably not. I think she knows how valued she is by the way her children always come home - one way or another - to spend time with her.
But Mother's Day isn't just about "your" mom. It's about every woman - even me, who has no kids and no intentions of having kids. It's a way to celebrate the women who have nurtured us, and inspired us. Because everyone, at some point in life, has had a woman who has done just that. And as a woman, we can aspire to be that person for someone else.
