What first drew me to Elizabeth Mayville's work was the "hair" portraits. I love the originality. Usually, when you see a painting of a woman, her face is the focus, but this takes the concept of portraiture to a different place. A woman's crowning glory is so often her hair - so why not make it the focus? I love the idea.
Elizabeth is not a one trick pony. Although many of her paintings or prints for sale in her etsy shop feature one clearly painted item, some, like the painting below, are more complex. They are glimpses of home-life. She writes that she is very interested in the aspects of what makes a home, and her paintings are so warm, I can only imagine what her own home looks like!
